The YMCA Camp Sloper day camp program serves over 2,500 campers each summer, roughly 600+ campers per day. The program and facility are broken down into two program areas: the East Coast for younger campers in grades K-5 and the West Coast for older in campers grades 6-11. Each coast has specifically trained staff members, activities and facilities designed to meet the needs of that particular age group. We feel this is an important and effective way to best serve the large variety of age groups and interests of campers who attend YMCA Camp Sloper throughout the summer. Listen to what some of our parents are saying about YMCA Camp Sloper.

Traditional Camps: Our Traditional Camps will expose campers to all the activities that YMCA Camp Sloper has to offer as well as special highlights offered for each of the different age groups. As campers graduate to the next age group, more activities, choices and special events are offered, which is why we refer to it as a "stepping stone" program. These camps are recommended for first-time campers and children interested in all areas of camp.

Specialty Camps: Our Specialty Camps are designed for campers with a specific interest. The campers spend the majority of the day focusing on the desired specialty camp with the afternoon Free Activity period left open to choose some of the Traditional Camp activities. These camps are recommended for campers who have a specific desire or interest at camp. Please see the current camp brochure for a list of specialty camps being offered this year.

Goals of the YMCA Camp Sloper day camp program:

  1. To instill the YMCA Mission and YMCA Character Values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility through our day camp programs and activities.
  2. To give all campers a day camp experience based on the YMCA Camp Sloper Credo and Sloper Staff Philosophy: "Be Fun, Give Fun, Have Fun, Everyday!"
  3. To focus on specific developmental needs of each age group by offering a variety of age appropriate activities through traditional and specialty camp programs.
  4. To have participants achieve the camper outcomes for each of the Specialty Areas incorporated in the day camp program.
  5. To provide programs and activities that build leadership, self-confidence, independence and socialization skills in all campers.
  6. To offer programs that meet the changing needs of the greater Southington-Cheshire communities.
